I feel sad when I see blank faces, a lack of animation or exploration as these so-called 'good' babies sit or lie about without expecting interaction from the adults around them. I also feel sad that responsive parents are often the brunt of criticism for 'pandering' to their babies.

What lights up my life though, is the joy and animation, curiosity and boundless exploration that I observe in responsively nurtured babies. Many of these babies begin life as 'high need' or 'high interest' babies; others are 'easier'. But one thing they all seem to have in common as they grow is a joy for living - it is wonderful to see these babies become little people with wonder in their eyes and spirit in their souls!
